About the Company
Our client is an established mining holding company in Indonesia. For an organization of this kind, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is one of the most critical positions in the leadership team, and recruiting one is among the more challenging executive search assignments in the country.
What Challenges They Faced
The company had been searching for a suitable CFO for several months. The search was first conducted internally, and then with other executive search and headhunter firms.
Despite these efforts, the company had not yet found a candidate who fully matched the requirements of the position. This was when Talent Hunts Indonesia was engaged to support the search.
How Talent Hunts Helped
Understanding the real requirements behind the position
For a senior executive position such as CFO, simply matching a candidate's CV against a job description is rarely enough. Our first step was a deeper assessment of the position, to understand:
- The company's business and organizational context
- The strategic responsibilities of the CFO
- The financial and commercial challenges of the organization
- The leadership expectations of the shareholders and management
- The experience and competencies required to succeed in the role
- The type of executive who would be able to operate effectively within the organization
This assessment became the foundation of our CFO executive search strategy. Rather than producing a large number of candidates, we focused on identifying executives who were genuinely relevant to the mandate.
Three highly shortlisted candidates
Following our search and assessment process, we presented three highly shortlisted CFO candidates. Each had been carefully evaluated against the requirements of the position, rather than simply meeting basic qualifications on paper.
The client ultimately selected one of the three shortlisted candidates.
A successful executive search is not about presenting more candidates. It is about presenting the right candidates.
Quality, not quantity
There is a difference between CV sourcing and executive search. At senior management and C-level, the value of a search partner lies in the ability to understand the business, assess executive suitability, challenge assumptions, and deliver a shortlist that gives the client confidence in making a hiring decision.
Our process: Understanding → Searching → Assessing → Shortlisting → Selecting. In this CFO executive search in Indonesia, three highly relevant candidates were enough to identify the right executive for the organization.
